Red Sox Rundown

Because Boston’s tenth man could not be wrong

Music to Their Ears

I heard Three Doors Down’s song Kryptonite today. The song always makes me think of Jason Varitek, as it has been played off-and-on when ‘Tek has an at-bat for quite a few years. I can’t help but be struck by the question, “If I go crazy, will you still call me Superman?” This question has been answered for Varitek by Red Sox Nation with a resounding “No.” Sorry, Captain, one bad year and we kick you to the curb. Moody much, Nation?

But it got me thinking about the songs various Sox players play for their at-bats, or when they come out of the bullpen, and which songs maybe they should play instead. What I’ve done here is given you a list of all the songs current Sox have played when they come up to bat or out of the ‘pen. For some of the players, the most recent information I could find was from 2004, so I welcome your corrections if my list is outdated. Next to the current song, I’ve listed what might be a more appropriate song for the player. I also would love to hear your suggestions, as I’m sure there are great songs I’ve overlooked.

Special thanks to Soxy Lady, MLB.com, and ESPN’s Page 3 for their lists of player songs. The sites did conflict on certain players, so if my list is wrong, you can blame them. Or me. Whatever makes you happy.

I’m aware not every player that has the possibility of making the 25-man roster come April is on there. It’s mostly Sox veterans and a few who have already made a mark through spring training.

What do you think, Sox Nation? Other suggestions?
